Does anyone have a Freedom 36 or 38 with factory installed air
conditioning? Some indicate that they have a system installed under
the V-berth but I am concerned about how much noise it may make under
the bunk. I am also looking for suggestions on where the ducting runs
and where the vents are located.

Don’t know if it is factory installed, but my A/C is installed under
the V berth. It is a little noisy. The water pump makes more noise
than the compressor and air fans. Does not bother me – I sleep in
the quarter berth
My system has two air vents in the V berth, one in the head, one in
the salon, and one in the quarter berth. The ducting is well hidden
and runs along the bottom of the various cabinets it passes thru.
The arrangement does a pretty good job for the forward part of the
boat, but the air vent to the quarter berth is totally useless.
Neither cool air nor warm air when on the heating cycle in winter gets
back to the outlet vent because of the long circuitous route the
ducting travels. Would be better to have a separate dedicated A/C unit
to cool/heat the quarter berth area. Plenty of room for a small unit
between the transom and the rear panel of the quarter berth.
Also, the vent in the head right behind the toilet is not the greatest
idea – it’s OK if you have pretty hot pants
Jerry,
Thanks for the info. A couple of other question: 1) What is the
BTU rating of the air conditioner that you have? 2) Does the duct
lay exposed on the bottom of the lockers or does it lay between the
hull and the bottom of the lockers?
Thanks, Bruce

1400 btu

Exposed and in the bottom corners formed by the hull and the cabinet
partitions. They are pretty well hidden and not in the way. I’m in
Santa Rosa, California right now and I’ll take some pictures when I
get back to Texas if you would like.
