Greetings Freedom Enthusiasts,
We have decided to sell our 1988 Freedom 36 with a platform extension (making it a 38’ boat) located in Whitehall Michigan. This is a fresh water boat that has been maintained continuously with recent updates including new electronics, recovered cushions in the main salon and a new dodger. We just completed a two week cruise across Lake Michigan to Door County Wisconsin and back and the boat is ready to cruise for a new owner. Full equipment list and pictures are available by contacting me at sailslakemichigan@…
You won’t find a clearer, better equipped cruising boat in this size range!

Mike,
I have a Freedom 36 in Charlevoix and considering adding the stern
extention. Was this a big job? Did you class yours on and then
paint the hull or just bolt it on?

Hi Bruce,
The extension was on my boat when I bought it. It was added by the original owner who did the work himself. It is through-bolted to the transom and I assume he used 5200 at the joint. When we first bought the boat the seam bothered me a bit and I thought about having it filled and gelcoated. But over time I have grown use to it and never made the investment. I would not have bought the boat without the extension. It is very handy for swimming, putting the dinghy motor up and down off the stern rail and for getting into and out of the dink. As I recall the extension was around $7500 when I bought my boat…7 years ago. It is probably 10,000 today, but I really do not know. I am not sure what the labor would be to add it, but the original owner was able to install the one on our boat.
If you would like additional pics or you get down near White Lake I would be happy to let you look at how ours was attached.
If you know of any one looking for a boat, please let them know about ours…We have been sailing since 1988 and our family is grown and out on their own, so we are going to take a breather and do some international travel before we make a decision on our next boat, most likely a trawler.
