Does anyone know the roach measurement numbers for an original (as supplied) F36 Mainsail? The local PHRF committee would like both my measurements of MGM and MGU (mid girth middle and mid girth upper) for both my current sail and the original sail. The girth numbers are determined by removing the sail from the boat, extracting the battens and folding the sail. Once along the luff with the head and the tack overlapping and a mark is made on the luff at the half fold, then the head is moved to the clew and the leech is marked at the half fold. The distance between the two marks is MGM. For MBU you repeat marking fold points with the head moved to the luff and leech marks from the MGM measurements. I assume the original P & E are the values listed on the old sales brochures.
I think I can short cut the process by measuring luff to leech at the foot and each batten pocket while the sail is still on the boom. Then use a piece of graph paper to make a scale model paper sail that I can then fold to determine the scaled up values for MGM and MGU without having to find a safe place to layout my sail on the ground or having to lug the sail off the boat and down the dock to a mythical non-abrasive surface.
