Anyone in this group have experience with the Mull designed Freedom 36
Ketch? Owners, past owners, fellow sailors??? I know that it was not
the winning configuration. Heavy bow? Almost twice the mast cost? But
what about sailing qualities in real conditions???
Look forward to words of wisdom.

Fargo,
I have no experience with the boat, but I think that the sailing
characteristics wil be similar to the F39 ketch. Ask Dave Benjamin how
the F39 behaved.
Good luck,
Michel

I have only sailed on an F-36 cat ketch
once. This one had been modified to add more buoyancy at the bow. The waterline
had been extended, essentially a complete false bow. The owner claimed this
made a big difference. Obviously it was a big and expensive modification.

Thank you Alan and Michel:I take it that your sail was on Wobgone Daze…yes…very much modified. Not planning a duplication…though I much admire Eric Sponberg’s design and Dr. Cady’s commitment. I was thinking of something more simple built around the long for sale F36 down in North Carolina. FargoAlan Kusinitz <akusinitz@…> wrote: I have only

Fargo,
I don’t have direct experience with this, just the fascinating stories
of not only the bow reconstruction but the rotating wing mast refit for
Wobegone Daze. However, I think it’s telling that the reason they did
the bow refit was because as a Cat Ketch, the 36 hull was very tender,
especially off the wind where there wasn’t enough forward volume to
support the drive of the main. The 36 hull as a sloop was a much better
sailor. The 39 express and the 39 schooner seem to handle the volume
issue forward much better.
