Freedom 36 wiring

Posted by William A. Cormack (wacormack@…>)

My 1986 Freedom 36 has two strange items in the smoked plastic covered storage locker outboard of the galley. On the forward end of the locker there is a terminal block with about six connections in it. Just below that is a 110 volt outlet that does not seem to be connected to the shore power.

Can anyone shed some light on these?

Take a multimeter and clamp it to the terminal block. Throw all your
breakers one by one till you get a reading. The 110 volt outlet is
exactly that. In my case, that outlet is exposed on the ouside face
of the cabinet. My insurer required a GFI at that location. Have you
checked the wiring to the outlet?

I plan to rewire my mast this spring. Can anyone comment on the route that the wiring takes from the nav station panel to the mast base? I assume it goes behind the settee. Is there likely to be any difficulty pulling the new wire through using the old wire to pull it with?

I seem to
remember that the wiring between nav-sta and mast base runs down under the
floor along the centerline. At least that was so on 36#48. You can confirm
by lifting the bilge access panel amidships where you should see a wire bundle run
down the stbd. side.

On my F-36 (#88) it runs down centerline and turns starboard (to nav)
at the end of settee. I did have trouble fishing a wire through,
although I did not have the benefit of using old wire. (In my I case
I was using electrician wire to fish a new wire through from nav.)
Good luck.

I did redo my steaming wire this spring as well since the wire pulled
loose from the light. (wire at base of mast was fine so didn’t need to
go through your part.
