We bought Flying Freedom, a Freedom 40 40 just under a year ago after she had been sat on the hard for nearly 6 years. We have spent a lot of time, and as with boats, money, getting her fit to sail again.
Yesterday was the day we finally took her out and she didn’t disappoint as we cruised The Solent, Portsmouth UK.
The link is a quick drone shot of her nearly at her best.
Beautiful boat! Thanks the video. What model drone did u use. Wish u were in Portsmouth RI rather than UK so I could see it up close although I will be in your area in September to see the HMS Victory.
Ben is being modest and not banging his drum about his youtube channel, so I will. One day i was drinking my morning coffee and watching youtube, and the algorithm suggested I watch this video right here. Its pretty neat to watch a couple get to know their new boat.
My wife and I have had the same boat, #16 since 2008. You have a very special boat. congratulations. You will learn all the nuances with experience. The most basic and best advice I can give you is to repeat the old adage: “if you think of reefing, reef, don’t wait.” If you see a bit blow coming, drop both sails. Once the boat starts getting over powered, reefing and dropping the sails, particularly the jib, become challenging.
