Freedom 40/40 - topping lift install

Thanks  My stackpack made the decision for me. Because it is so long, I felt that I had to mount the bracket as far aft as I could on the boom. Instillation was super easy. Held the bracket in place and drilled a 7/32” hole then tapped it with a 1/4-20 thread tap. Added some tef-gel to a bolt and screwed it in place to hold the bracket and then drilled and tapped the rest. Took about 15 minutes. Be sure to use tef-gel. If you dont you will create a little electrolysis problem around each bolt.

I agree, that is a fine looking Mack pack. Yours appears to also have more lazy jacks supporting it.
My mainsail leech rarely falls into the pack and it’s a lot of work to get it packed and zippered.

Thanks marc. It has 5 attachment points and because the bag is so tall, the sail drops right in to that thing like a horse running home to the barn. I have a tides marine luff track and it slides down with ease. The issue with what you see in the picture is the apex of all of the points was too high and the aft points were too vertical, which caused the leach to hang up on them when raising the sail. This is why I need to rig a topping lift, so I can tune the lazy jacks to have a lower apex and not have to use them to support the boom.

Went with an install as aft and high as possible. It was a bit of a tight squeeze betweeen the heads of the provided bolts and the sheeves. Bring a new, high performance drill bit. The aluminum is challenging to get a hole started with a drill operating above the shoulders.

That looks great ! You solved the shorter bracket issue.. i had not thought that it could be mounted on that flange. The aluminum there is probably 3x as thick as the boom extrusion.
