Hi everybody I am checking now a freedom 45 cc, which i want to buy. Can anyone give me some tips please, about what and how to check the rig and about some other things i need to know about this boat. The boat is from 1989 and in a bad condition, fully equipped but hardly used for the last few years. So if someone can give what souled be a reasonable price for it, more or less i will appreciate it very much. thanks yaki

Any hurricane damage? I’m not sure what part of the country you’re
in but there’s bound to be a lot of damaged boats out there. I’d be
very suspicious of anything with a fresh coat of paint. In general
major project boats will cost more and take longer to complete than
you imagine. Most people pay too much for projects. Usually it’s
worth half of what you think unless you’ve done a few before.

Hi Yaki,
I have sold Freedoms in brokerage for years and know the boats well.
There is no answer for the question you asked however without a lot
more information. I would suggest that you hire a good surveyor who
can asses the value for you based upon a thorough inspection and
analysis of condition. This will cost some money but given that all
Freedom 45’s are asking in excess of $135,000 and some are well over
$200,000, the cost of the survey is worth it. This will be required
in any case if you plan to finance and/or insure your boat.
There is no way to certify that the rig is sound. No testing that I
am aware of can determine faults. You can make a visual inspection
and based upon the success of the Freedom rigs over the years feel
pretty comfortable with it if there is nothing visual to worry about.
The Freedom 45’s are wonderful sailing boats with a great interior
and two have circumnavigated, one of these essentially twice. Good
luck with your search and acquisition.
