The fuel tank on my Freedom 36 split at a bottom seam. Where can I
get a replacement that will fit through the companionway? The
original tank was installed before the deck was put on the boat. To
remove the old tank from the boat, the marina had to cut away about
a foot of the forward starboard corner.
The tank was aluminum with a capacity of 33 gallons, manufactured by
Aluminum Fabricators Products in Perry, FL. Can’t find them on the
internet.

This happened to me this time last year on my 1988 F36/38. My yard had
a new tank custom fabricated just slightly smaller than the original so
it would subsequently fit through the companionway if there every is a
“next time.” Loss of tank capacity was negligible.
Good luck.

This is precicely what happened on my F36. In my case, the tank was
rewelded in its truncated shape. I figure I only lost2-3 gal of
capacity. All the seams were inspected and rewelded and the tank
pressure tested. The tank was recoated with an epoxy coal tar
emulsion to protect from further corrosion.
Check the partition panels along the tank. If you were leaking fuel,
it pooled at the bottom of the partition. The edges of the panels
were never sealed during construction and it is likely that fuel
wicked up into the panels. One panel had to be replaced and another
had a new bottom piece sistered in.

Thanks for the info. My boat is also a 1988; the first one so
designated and it made the fall boat shows that year. (#69). The
AFP company is now the RDS company used by BoatUS and west Marine.
My marina told me this morning that they still have the engineering
specs in their computer as you too found out.
Again, thanks!
