I’m sold on Garhauer and will choose their stuff whenever it’s available. I don’t have a single complaint with my solid vang, I’ve had it about 7 years. It’s made a very real difference in the balance of the boat when off the wind. Sturdy, reliable, well made, resonably priced. The mast collar they made is the work of an artisan. 100% positive opinion. (I have a lot of their blocks, too. Never a bit of trouble.)
I have a solid Garhauer vang, the vang is so important in trimming my sail of the wind it makes a big difference. Ive got no complaints about my Garhauer. i did blow one of the side blocks once as I was to overpowered and didnt back the vang off. Clutchs, blocks, outboard motor crane I have alot of Garhauer its good stuff and looks great.

I have one on my F36 and am very happy with it. I had a stainless fitting made up to fit into the mast collar where the original vang attached then sent it to Garhauer who welded the vang to it. I didn’t like the idea of the collar and this brought the attachment point down a little giving a better angle of pull.
Here is another question, rather than a reply to the first question:
I just bought a F28 sloop and the original boom vang will need to be replaced. I had a rigid vang on my Ranger 33 and it allowed me to get rid of the topping lift. The lazy jacks serve the purpose of a topping lift on the F28, so would it make financial and/or sail trimming sense to get a rigid vang even if the boom will always have this topping lift? I am a cruiser, not a racer, if that matters. Just wondered. If the F36 also uses the lazy jacks as topping lift, you may have already answered my question. Thanks
