The autopilot on our recently-bought Freedom 32 doesn’t work right. It is a Raymarine ST 4000+.
We depress the clamp on the steering wheel;
then hit “auto” (tried hitting it twice, but made no difference);
The compass setting on the autopilot is correct, BUT
the boat doesn't hold its course.
When it goes off course, the "off course" alarm beeps.
If we hit the " -10" button, it heads off to port. But there is no change with the “+10” button.
Has anyone run into this problem? I understand the previous owner had difficulties with the autopilot and consulted this site, and then was able to fiddle with it to make it work. Judith,

Judith,
Could it be a problem in one of the connecting wires or plugs? Or
perhaps water entered the control box, making some push buttons
defunct?

Judith,
on Glory we just replaced the control head on our ST7000 system with
an ST7002+ control head. It required us to buy a seatalk round to
seatalk flat converter cable (available for around $25 from
jackrabbitmarine.com), but it works like a champ. The newer S-1
wheelpilot uses the ST6002+ control head, and you may be able to
simply replace the old head with the new one. It is worth calling
Raymarine for a definite answer.
