Gel coat colors

Posted by ajlorman (ajlorman@…>)

Does anyone know the references for the gray and tan gel coat used by
Freedom for the nonskid on boats in the mid-80s? I called Mini-Craft
in Florida, who supplies aftermarket gel coat for just about
evcerybody, to see if they have the right colors and they told me that
Freedom only provided a reference for the white it used then. They
can match it from a sample, but that requires making a far bigger hole
than I want to fix.

Many thanks.

Al, As gel coat ages it becomes difficult to match to the original, even with code. When I was in the FRP business I had better success using a filler then going to an automotive paint specialty supplier and have them do a colour match with my gel coat sample. I used acrylic paint with added de-glosser. Gel coat is not as glossy as paint and is a dead giveaway. Al,
