Greetings:
Our youth sailing club has received the donation of a Freedom 21. The
boat is ready to sail, but the gun mount plastic sleeve is missing. I
have read the “Blue Merle” solution of two pieces of 6x16" Sintra 2mm
plastic, heat gun shaping and E6000 adhesive.
My questions:
Must the pole be removed from the mount for this operation?
Has anyone had success with other (non-Sintra) materials?

I’m John, “Blue Merle”'s former owner.
Yes, you do need to remove the pole from the gun mount sleeve. Just
slide it out. I would also suggest removing the gun mount sleeve
from the pulpit so that you can work on it in your “shop”
(basement). There is a nylon lock nut on the bolt that goes through
the pulpit.
As for the choice of plastic, anything that it thin enough and can
be molded (curled) will work. Note that the clearance is quite
small. So I’d test fit anything before applying adhesion. I.e.,
put the new plastic into the sleeve and make sure that the pole will
slide through.

I used a PVC pipe for relining. Got it at Home Depot plumbing dept.
Slightly larger diameter than the sleeve, cut it to size than cut out a strip longitudinally to open it up like a sleeve.
Compres and fit it in, secure with adhesive. There is no need to shape it and thickness is just right.
Pipe is under $10
