Haarstick Sailmakers Now Offers A New Sail Cleaning, Mildew Removal & Sailkoting Service
At Haarstick Sailmakers we have been offering sail cleaning services since the early 1980’s. While this has been a nice service to offer we have never really encouraged our customers to have it done for a couple of reasons. First of all the mechanical agitation that occurs during the process softens and reduces the life of the sail. Secondly nobody had a really effective cleaning solution, or was willing to work with us to develop one, that didn’t utilize harsh chemicals, which could damage the sailcloth or stitching. And lastly it was difficult to find someone who didn’t use heat in either the washing or drying process. So the service we offered utilized some agitation, a fairly mild cleaning solution and no heat. This allowed us to have sails cleaned with minimal abuse but did not tackle any other than normal day-to-day stains.
We have recently started working with a company who has dedicated itself solely to the sail cleaning industry. They are called Sailmaking Support Systems and you can check them out at www.sailkote.com They have addressed all of the concerns we have had about sail cleaning and provide a really top-notch service. They have also come up with a few ingenious innovations to tackle some of the more difficult problems such as mildew removal and prevention.
