Haarstick sails

Posted by Thomas Carlton (Finesse@…>)

So far everything I have heard about Haarstick is positive. My local Ullman & UK
lofts bid a little less for a new suit of sails for a F-33, but I am inclined to
go with Haarstick because of their experience with Freedoms. This is gut feel. I
have no experience with Haarstick.

Any advice from the voice of experience out there?

Thanks.

I’ve had sails for a Hoyt 29 and a Hoyt 32 made by Haarstick.
They worked out great. They know the boats and how to make sails
for them. For the 32 I upgraded the slides
and feel this helps the new sail to drop completely.

Thomas. I did not buy from Haarstick, and now regret it. Charlie

I’m from the Rochester area “home of Haarstick” and I have bought
several sails for my Freedom 25 from Steve Haarstick. The Dacron
main is superb, I am in my 5th or 6th season I think, and it still
looks perfect. It’s definately faster than the original sail if
that’s of interest. Spinnaker is also very good (I had constructed
similar to the original Ulmer sail same size and head angle). I would
be carefull shopping by price alone (I’ve been burnt in the past).
Wait until end of season and take advantage of the boat show sales.
You should be able to get a considerable discount.
