The Hood Yacht Systems hatch on the cabintop of my F-33 leaked when I bought the
boat
about a year ago. There was a lot of evidence of water staining of the overhead
teak frame,
and a little on the centerline table. I removed the entire thing, replaced the
Lexan, had it
refloated professionally & got new gaskets from Pompanette. I rebedded the frame
in
4200, and everything looked great. We just had our first big rain. It still
leaks. I have
identified at least one place near the forward port corner that clearly is
leaking right onto
the old stains. (The hatch opens forward). This leak is at or above the point
where the
gasket closes on the frame, because I can see large drops there. All three
re-gasketed
hatches are very hard to dog down, although it can be done.
Any ideas why I still have a leak, apparently in the same place? Any thoughts
about what to
do about it.

If your hatch leaks above the gasket, the leak is between the lexan and the frame. I’ve seen this before. Did not think it was possible, either. I got proof by dripping Capt. Tolleys Creaping Crack Cure on the caulk and the leak stopped. Had to rebed lexax to frame. Thanks, Andre. I was afraid of that, despite the fact that we had it rebedded
this year. I am going to try to track the leak down more thoroughly this
weekend.

Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack is a thin , easy
flowing epoxy sold at West Marine etc. Ive used it to
help temporarily seal some gel coat spider cracks .
The bottle tends to clog ,but is easily cleared with a
pin . Take Care Jody K

If they are hard to dog down, it seems that the gasket is too thick.
On the hinge side, you have to put lots of pressure on the gasket,
while at the bolt side, a crack stays open.

Mike,
Your explanation fits the situation perfectly. This is rather disappointing in a
way. We paid quite a bit of money to Pompanette for them to send the “right”
gasket material.
