I have to replace the handles of the hatch in the main cabin of my
boat, hull # 30 1986 vintage F-30. There is no identifying info re
the manufacturer on the hatch or the handle.
Any clues?
thanks, jim bender

Jim,
We have F30 #5, a 1986. I replaced the original hatch (lens frame
was out of square), but the original was a Bomar. It was a two part
frame (not extruded) and had self-supporting hinges (so no support
arm). I believe the unit was called a 20 x20, though the actual
opening was something like 19 5/8 x 19 5/8. Ours had the same handle
mechanism as the trapezoidal vee-berth hatch does.

Hatch handles are available from Pompanette – manufacturer of Bomar
products.
I replaced the hatch handles on my ‘87 F36 last summer. From Mr
Vines’ comments, the hatch and handles on my boat are the same as
those on yours.
Sorry, I can’t give you the part number and phone number to call
since the invoice is on the boat - 400 miles from where I am right
now.
With a little Google research you can get the phone number.
Describe your hatch to the sales rep and she can set up an order.
They have two types of handle: One is locking, the other is not
locking. You want the NOT locking style, but you have to ask for
them. If not, they will send you the locking style handle (guess
how I know) which has a built on support bracket to hold the hatch
open. You don’t need this since, like mine, the friction in the
hatch frame does the support and you, also, do not have support bars
that fit into those locking handles.
