I know many of you have upgraded an F36 or F38 holding system. I would
appreciate information on:
- how big
- where ordered from
- installation schematic, issues and lessons.
thanks

Ed, I can’t speak to the 36/38 specifically, but here are my hard-won
head lessons.
Don’t skimp on hose. The stuff that’s $7/foot is worth every penny.
Not only does it not permeate easily, it’s the easiest to work with on
stubborn barb fittings and others.
When working with the hose, if you can heat up the end you are
working with, even by dipping in hot water, it will slide on much
easier. Using dish soap won’t really lubricate the system, but it does
provide a very good seal once everything is clamped down.
Buy more hose than you think you need. it doesn’t take a radius
easily so you may have some issues getting it into tight spots.
when you look for a new holding tank, if you currently have a Y
valve for overboard/pumpout selection, consider getting a tank with two
discharges, preferably dip tubes. The dip tubes will ensure you get
most of the crud out of the tank without leaving a bunch of effluent
sitting in the hoses, and the dual pickups will allow you to eliminate
a Y-valve, a common source of frustration and failure.
Make sure you bring a lot of patience to the job, keep a lot of bleach
on hand for spills, and… well… good luck.

On my F39 pilothouse I tore the entire system out and replaced mine
with an airhead composting toilet> I still use the holding tank for
urine holding when needed but will remove that too soon so I’ll have
more space for storage. Totally eliminated the pumpout hassle, smells,
clogging and noise in the middle of the night…

I’m pretty sure that urine is OK for overboard discharge. No fecal
coliforms involved and about as close to a sterile liquid as the body
will ever produce.

That’s why Freedom’s have back rails. They keep us from falling
overboard whilst performing the act. Herm

Egads! Our Freedom has a taff rail at the back of the poop deck just high enough to trip me! Yikes!
