I just finished changing my fuel filters and bleeding the engine for the first time on my F-36 with Yanmar 3GM30F engine. With the help of some of you and others I got the job done but not without some foul language so I thought I’d share the details with you all. One thing I did do right from the beginning was start the engine before opening any fuel lines or filters, therefore I knew that air was the problem not something else. I was glad I learned all this while still on the hard, not bobbing around in the bay.
How to change fuel filters
CLOSE PETCOCK IN FUEL LINE
DRAIN PRIMARY FILTER
REMOVE/REPLACE FILTER CARTRIDGE
REMOVE AND REPLACE ENGINE FILTER
From here on is standard bleeding of the engine
OPEN VENT ON PRIMARY FILTER
UNSCREW PUMP ON PRIMARY FILTER
OPEN PETCOCK IN FUEL LINE
PUMP PRIMARY UNTIL FUEL COMES OUT VENT
CLOSE VENT AND SCREW DOWN PUMP
OPEN VENT PLUG ON TOP OF ENGINE FILTER - 10MM
OPERATE FUEL PUMP LEVER UNTIL FUEL COMES OUT
FUEL PUMP LEVER ONLY MOVES AND INCH OR SO AND ONLY PUMPS AT THE END OF THE STROKE
OPEN VENT ON FUEL INJECTOR - 10MM
OPERATE FUEL PUMP LEVER UNTIL FUEL COMES OUT
S/B OK TO START NOW (if you didn’t run out of fuel or fail any of the prior steps and tried to start)
IF NOT LOOSEN INJECTORS
CLOSE SEACOCK TO PREVENT WATERLOCK
USE REMOTE START
CRANK WITH COMPRESSION OFF UNTIL FUEL SPURTS FROM INJECTORS
TIGHTEN INJECTORS
START UP
MAY HAVE TO REPEAT THE WHOLE BLEEDING IF IT WILL NOT START
OPEN SEACOCK
Bill
