When you create a topic in certain categories, you must include at least 1 tag. You may ask, “What’s a tag?”.
A tag is a keyword that allows searches to return more exact results. If you do a search for something like “transmission”, you’ll see every post that includes the word “transmission” in the title or the body, which may include a lot of posts that aren’t relevant. However, you can do a search for the tag “transmission”, you will only see topics with the “transmission” tag, which will hopefully be much more exact.
If a tag doesn’t exist that you want to use, create one by typing it in the “Search or create” box:
Feel free to use/create up to 5 tags per topic. For example, if your post is about the transmission on a Yanmar 4JH, use “transmission”, “yanmar”, and “4jh” as tags.
I’m trying to create a new post but it won’t allow me to create new tags. I only see “Search” in the tags bar, not “Search or create”. Maybe a permissions problem?
That doesn’t work for me. It just says “No matches found” and goes back to being blank when I press “Done”. Maybe I’m doing it wrong? If it’s a permissions issue, my account is showing as a “basic user”.
I “mimicked” your account to see if I could see what you were seeing, and I did. I changed your membership level to “Member”, which is what I am, but that shouldn’t do anything per my understanding of trust levels. Anyhow, please try it and let me know if that works. Here’s the text of your post:
Has anyone installed a mast-mounted winch for the main halyard, with a jammer as well? How was it done? I’m strongly considering it, but I want to make sure it’s plenty strong and doesn’t damage the mast in the process.
There’s a chicken-and-egg type of issue with the default “trust level” required to create a post with a tag. The problem is that I required a minimum of 1 tag in some categories, but unless you had a “trust level” of 3, you couldn’t create a tag, which meant that you couldn’t post, and thus couldn’t gain a trust level.
Anyhow, the “solution” was to lower the trust level to 0. It’s now been lowered, which means that everyone can create tags and posts with tags.
