Hoyt F32 Flux Compass

Posted by Kevin Taylor (kevin683@…>)
Hi All,We have the factory installed Autohelm 4000 on our F32 that we recently purchased. During the sea trial and the couple of day sails we have been on, the autohelm wouldn’t hold a steady course. It would gyrate in pretty significant amounts. Someone suggested that the “flux compass” may have to be adjusted or calibrated.
I had the surveyor look out for it during his inspection but neither of us were able to find it. Two questions, does this sound like what needs to be done to fix the autohelm? Anyone know where this is located?
Thanks in advance,–KevinS/V Sway

Kevin:

Look for it in a central location, low down in the boat (or at least that is where they tell you to install it). I think your unit is the pretty much the same as my Raymarine 4000. The way to calibrate the compass is to find the appropriate “page” in the setup program and then slowly motor in two 360 degree circles. There is nothing adjustable on the compass itself.

The flux gate compass should be located in the main control unit. I
have an older version of an Autohelm autopilot and one of the
components on the main printed circuit card failed and the card had to
be replaced. It would either keep course or go wildly off course.
