I added the latest Gary Hoyt alternative for single handed sailing,
the “Hoyt Jib Boom.” In 2003 Gary allowed Forespar to manufacture
and market this great product. It allows you to control sail shape
and trim with an outhaul and the existing jib sheet. You also get
the benefit of not having to go forward to raise or lower the jib
thanks to a furler. You can view a dockside picture under photos

Please more details. How does it sail? How hard was it to
install? Who made the new jib? How did you decide on the size
of the boom to fit the foredeck? Is it easier to get around up
there than with the camberspar? It is tempting.

Charles,
The system works great, I ran the outhaul and the furler line through
double blocks back to a pair of harken 57mm rachet blocks with clam
cleats on the stern pulpit. You furl it out by pulling on the outhaul
and furl it in with the furler line. You have two trim adjustments.
First you reuse your exsisting jib sheet through a block on the end
of the boom. You can also adjust the the sail shape like the main by
easing the outhaul. The boom raises up as it rotates forward to clear
the lifelines. The jib boom hight is slightly higher then the jib
hanked on with the camberspar. My 1988 Freedom 36 had the single
center cleat directly under the bagged jib which was somewhat a
pain. The area is now clear.
I had all new sails in 2003. UK Sails Detroit loft made them for me.
The material is their top of the line cruising laminates. I will post
pictures under sail.
