Ok I often wonder about myself - I bought Goodway in 2016 and there was existing mild water damage at the base of the galley cabinet opposite the nav station. I repaired that damage but kept noticing it would re-occur. Could not figure out where water was coming from. Tuesday I’m doing the annual engine/ systems maintenance. I have engine, tranny, behind the sink access , all exposed and open. When I’m done and the engine is bled back to life, I put the tranny in gear and see water squirting from under the sink - going everywhere. I have a pss shaft seal. This has a vent hose leading up to the upper galley cabinet top next to the sink edge. Water is pouring from the top of that hose. Go figure! PYI told me I either needed to extend the hose higher ( no way) or install a hy-vent valve - lets air out and stops the water. Duh! I’ll post pics in a week or so when I get back !
You other f35 P owners - how to you deal with your pss shaft seal venting?
I now have another fun problem of repairing the water damage again!
I don’t have a PSS, but I installed one of these to solve a similar issue. I didn’t like having my shaft seal connected to the raw water discharge from my engine. I initially thought that as long as I elevated and secured the hose well above the waterline I would be all set. However, I didn’t account for one thing: when I put the engine in reverse and back down, the prop wash essentially gives the boat an enema. I couldn’t figure out why my engine room was periodically soaked with salt water. After I figured it out, I ordered one of these things and have had no further issues.
The air in the PSS is an issue when launching and if the boat goes faster than a Freedom should ever go. You can burp it after launching by simply compressing the rubber hose and pulling the seal open. After than you should be fine without a vent. This is per the manufacturer’s tech support (if you ask persistently enough.
At the boat today - two projects - the hy vent and the diesel heater. Hy vent all done and works. Second one the diesel heater became toast. Ordered another one
