I found you guys!

Hey,

I first joined the old group and stopped going to it because of all
the spam. Well we are currently hauled out in Ensenada and I of
course had a question and was searching and realized you formed a new
group-awesome!

A little background-we purchased out 1990 Freedom 45 in Marina del Rey
CA in 2004. We have been living aboard since. Did a lot of work in
the first two years and then decided that we wanted to be able to swim
in the waters we lived in and made the huge leap to Catalina
Island-about 40 miles away:) Since moving out there we started a
charter business (my fiance Craig is now a captain and i am crew or
the galley wench-whatever works) and we do exclusive charters. In
addition to that we started a marine supply and eco friendly products
store in Avalon. We were having trouble getting boat parts there and
shipping costs so much, so we decided to help ourselves and the other
thousands of boaters that visit Avalon and the island. It has been a
fun first season and now that it has slowed down-we are giving Pelagia
the much needed tlc at Baja Naval in Ensenada. Check out
www.dinghydocks.com and www.avalonsailing.com.

Now to my question-I saw in one of the posted docs that the original
stanchion bases are no longer available. We need to replace a few of
ours-they are cracking. Any recommendations on good replacements and
where to get them?

Looking forward to chatting!

Thanks

Angie

Welcome to the group Craig and Angie! Cool name for your store. I
actually named my own Yahoo group “Thedingydock” some years ago with
the intentional malapropism in there… heh heh We will be out on the
west coast doing an installation and test firing of a watermaker
system I’ve built. I hope to do some channel island sailing while out
there although it will be on a Pearson 365 rather than our Freedom 40.

Have you considered having your bases welded?

George

I believe that the stanchion bases for the F45 are pretty standard. I’m
in Illinois right now or I’d go on deck and take a look at ours. you
could check with garhauer - they have a very wide selection, and if
they don’t have it, they’ll fabricate it for you.

The aluminum bases for the older F40 CK, however, are no longer easy to
find. I had a friend weld me one from stainless using the bolt hole
pattern from the old one.
