I know there is supposed to be a jib topping lift but I’ve never seen
one installed. My mast is out and scheduled to go back in in a few days
so now would be a good time to do it right. I’ve been using the
spinnaker halyard, but I’d rather rig it right. Can anyone tell me how
it works?
Thanks,

There should be a provision for a light shackle to install side-to-
side just below the upper attachment point of the forestay. Look for
a side-to-side hole in the permanent fitting that’s riveted to the
mast at the hounds, somewhere aft or below the point where the
forestay attaches. The straight “bolt” part of the shackle goes
through the hole and the loop of the shackle hangs down (and I’d
guess that if you could provide for chafe protection where the line
goes through the hole you probably don’t even need the shackle, you
could just use the hole itself.) A light line, 1/4" maybe, goes from
the loop of the shackle and ties to a welded-on loop at the aft end
of the Camberspar boom, the shorter loop that is opposite the much
longer loop that the jib sheet attaches to. Tie the line so it holds
the aft end of the boom maybe just below waist height when the sail
is down.
Fiddle with the length of the line a time or two (it’s not a critical
adjustment at all) and you’ll probably never have to touch it again.
When the sail is down it holds the end of the boom up off the deck,
when the sail is up it just goes slack and goes along for the ride.

In
the Files section of the old Yahoo Freedom list, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/freedomyachts2003/files/,
there is an F32 manual. Page 31 has a diagram of rigging the top end of
the jib topping lift.
