Have joined the JRA. Lots of info but still looking for F35 conversion

There are at least 3 Freedom 33s that have become junks.
There’s also a Freedom 28.

In process of buying a Freedom 33 and converting to junk rig. Have owned 3 previous junks, a Kingfisher 26 with wood battens, and a 30 (200 yrs old) and a 57, both all teak Hong Kong junks with traditional bamboo battens. I am looking for a rigger in Florida to help me do this. I have plans from Junk Rig Assn. that did the design work for Pete Hill. I would appreciate any leads you could offer.

I am just starting out on this venture and busy designing sail rig in accordance with the Practical Junk Rig book. Good luck with your project.

That is where I started back in the 90’s when I was rerigging my 200 yr old teak junk, Mandarin Star. Derek Van Loan’s book, The Chinese Sailing Rig, was most helpful in designing the keel-stepped main mast (I built from a local pressure-treated electric pole), the local bamboo battens, cured in a vat in my driveway, etc. The Van Loan book has perfect steel mast top fitting info. The sails were made of Top Gun fabric by Sail Rite. But – here I go again. Pete Hill’s Pelican sail design will be more helpful this time, with a 1981 hull and carbon fiber masts.

It is all a wonderful adventure – if you’re not in a hurry.
