I have a leak in the skylight on my Freedom 35. I have had various
opinions on what to reseal the skylight with. What are the thoughts in
the Freedom community on what is the best sealant to use.

Where’s the leak? Is it the gasket, or the sealant around the
glazing, or at the handles? Herm

Hi Herm
The problem is in the sealant around the non opening skylight

Gordon,
I’ve had success using GE Ultraglaze SSG4000 between acrylic sheet
and aluminum alloy frame on openable deck hatches. It requires
removing the glazing, removing all old sealant, and then rebedding
the glazing in new sealant. I doubt you could achieve success just be
smearing more over the joint. In the meantime, consider using
aluminum foil tape (acrylic adhesive) to seal off the periphery of
the hatch until you can get the proper sealant. Herm

Perhaps the seam around the glazing is wide enough to rout it out,
like they do when recaulking teak decks? Then you wouldn’t have to
remove the glazing and still be able to create a new watertight seal.
