Lectra-San

Posted by Michael g katz (mgkatz@…>)

I’m considering whether to put a Lectra-san on a Freedom 38 that I purchased last year. The current holding tank is 12 gallons or so. It seems the only practical option for cruising is to install a much bigger holding tank under the v-berth or put in a Lectra-san. I have some concerns about whether the Lectra-san will be reliable and simple to use, and/or will give me maintenance headaches. We plan on going south from Chesapeake and cruise the Carolinas, and then eventually to Florida. I understand that in brackish water salt may have to be added to the flushwater.
Anyone experienced with the Lectra-san and have any positive or negative feedback?

The most knowlegable person I know about all things ‘heady’ is Peggie Hall. You
can raise a question for her to answer on the cruising world bulletin board. I
earlier posts, she has liked the lectra san. You cannot use it in ‘no discharge
zones’ such as all of Rhode Island waters (I may end up using the forward water
tank to be a holding tank).

Michael- I have used a Lectra-San for many years due to the problems
you cited. It is very easy to use and almost maintenance free- we
just had ours rebuilt after 20 plus years of use. They make a “salt
adding device” that you can put into the system to use when in
brackish or fresh water. Lenny

Thanks. That is a good endorsement. My wife said she never heard of anything on a boat lasting 20 years…
