I’m thinking of buying a 1983 Freedom 33 Cat Ketch with shoal draft
keel. I haven’t seen her yet but she’s been on the hard for 2 years
(due to divorce issues I’ve been told)and have been advised that that
a new fuel pump and batteries are required. The broker has informed me
that most of the gear onboard is original including the sails.
Are there any issues with these boats and anything I should be looking
out for when I inspect her?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Greg:Is this the F33 in the Oriental area? I went aboard that boat and was a little upset by the unexplained bumps in many areas of the topsides (NOT blisters below the waterline). Did not follow up with this group on that problem…but would look out for it. As with any cored boat you need to have a very very good surveyor to help you look for core moisture. They should have good instrumentation and lots of experience with this issue. And since the carbon fiber masts are worth more than the boat, they should be inspected carefully. Fargoex.
