Looking to buy a Freedom 35 in Florida

Posted by williedoylemom (williedoylemom@…>)

Hi, Just to make sure we are not missing any boats, other than the
ones in Boca Grande, Ft. Lauderdale and Sarasota, anyone know of a
boat 1995 or newer for sale in Florida? We’d love to find one nearby
and not have to fly to see more distant ones Thanks, Faith

I wouldn’t rule out looking at some of the boats up north. They will
generally have less use on them since they are not sailed in the
winter. Most likely they did not go through several hurricanes. This
may sound terribly discriminatory but you may also notice that boats
up north may have received better maintenance. I’ve lived in Florida
so please don’t beat me up over this. As a general rule I’ve found
boats better maintained in areas where sailing is seasonal rather
than year round.

You can always have a good surveyor or knowledgeable friend perform
a cursory inspection before buying an airline ticket.

There was a Freedom 35 located in Oriental North Carolina that was in excellent condition when I purchased my 35 in 2004. It was still on the market six months ago but have not checked since. I believe it had a blue hull. At the time I was looking prior to purchase of ElDorado(my Boat) the Freedom was overpriced compared to others on the market by about $ 15,000. The last time I checked the asking price had been adjusted.

I remember the one in Ft. Lauderdale. It needed some work. I made a low offer on it and they countered but in the meantime I found ElDorado at Amelia Island and bought it. The boat was in overall like new condition except the jib had blown out and the Mainsail had one seam needing repair.

Dear Faith: I presume that you are looking at Yachtworld. I see two F35s near us that are much cheaper than the average. We just sailed our F30 south to Florida and returned to Connecticut for Christmas. Could look at these local boats before driving back to our boat in St. Augustine if it would be helpful.
