Lost main halyard

Posted by elomzisman (elomzisman@…>)

I would appreciate any adice/info on getting a new halyard through
the mast of a F-21. Is this mast strong enough to withstand body
weight of someone going up in a bosun chair since the mast is so
tappered at the top? It maybe too much stress on an unstayed mast!
If the mast needs to be lowered, how does one fish a new halyard line
inside the mast and be able to get the new haylard line to come
through the exit hole on the starboard side of the mast. If someone
has experienced this or knows a technique, this would be greatly
appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Not sure about the mast supporting your weight, but on an F39 mast (which can
support your weight) there is a hole at the top about the size of a US quarter
dollar, which can be used to run a “fish tape” down the mast. A “fish tape” is
a tool that electricians use to pull electrical wiring thru conduit. It
probably has a more formal name of which I am unaware.

Good luck,

tm
