Making the main cabin bunk wider

Posted by seychellois_lib (mcunningham@…>)

there have been a few messages mentioning the main cabin bunk and I
just wanted to brag about a project I completed late last year. My F30
did not have the slide out bunk option and I really, really wanted to
widen the this bunk a little because its my favorite place to sack out.

I considered all sorts of intricately engineered contraptions and
finally settled on simplicity. I took four pieces of plywood about 32
inches long and 8 inches wide, put a similar width hinged foot on each
one of them and created a platform that supports the bottom settee
cushion and allows just enough room to squeeze the back cushions down
flat to extend the width of the bunk to about 32 inches. When I break
the bed down, the four pieces fold up and stow out of the way in the v
berth area, they weigh about 10 Lbs total.

This works really well, its as solid as a rock when set up and allows
plenty of room around the extended berth to get forward and aft and to
the galley area.

Total material cost about $20.00

Interesting solution! Could you perhaps post a photo of your berth
widening gear?

Thanks,
Michel
