Mast wedges ??

Posted by paulsebra (paulsebra@…>)

Good Day,

The F33 that I am working on is ready to be trucked to it’s new home.
This mandates mast removal. The manual and other posts recommend
plastic wedges when the masts are reinstalled. The PO used wooden
wedges and some are getting punky.

What are my options … where can I get the plastic wedges?, can you
use just Spartite?

Thanks in advance for your help.

BTW the rehab has included replacing the old engine (Yanmar 2Qm) with
a new one … (Yanmar 3YM)… If anyone has any questions about that
job, please let me know … I can give you a heads up on some tricky
issues … it’s not a drop-in.

I believe that Spartite is the current choice.

Polyurethane wedges are to be used -never wood(as per TPI)I bought 70
durometer poly 4inch square bar,and cut wedges on the bandsaw. Final fit is
using carpenters shims between the partners and the poly wedges.I opted out
of spartite out of fear of gluing eveything together.I got the bar on the
web. 70 durometer is similar to rubber shoe heel in hardness. 4 years-no
problems. BTW,the fuel fill was standard on the cockpit sole

I have spartite at the cabin top and wooden wedges and two bolts at the mast step.

Has anyone used the Spartite on a freedom 36 or 38. Seems like a
lot of room between the collar and the mast for a fill type wedge???
