I finally saw at a shoal draft 21 that’s for sale locally.Exciting!
Appears to be pretty clean.The mast is cracked radially for most of
it’s length and the tabernacle base has an elongated hole.If any
members are familiar with this and would comment I would be grateful.

Bill, the elongated hole is not a problem unless the hole is so elongated that it allows the mast to rotate drastically. Could you describe the cracks please? Cracks that go around the circumference are usually only cosmetic. Cracks that run linearly (up the length of the mast) are a different matter and should be avoided.

spiral.To my untrained eye they appear to be more than superficial?I
took several photos.

I have an F21. 1985, and the mast has the same cracks. They are superficial, not structural. When I first noticed these cracks I called the manufacturer, sent photos, and got a written reply that the cracks were cosmetic.
My F21 is for sale as soon as I get her cleaned up. I took delivery in 1985 and have sailed, “WINNER BITCH”, in San Diego, San Francisco Bay, Lake Tahoe, the Delta and many other waters. I was awardwd a plaque for the smallest Freedom to finish a race on SF Bay. Took two death rolls flying the kite. The mast was in the water twice and not a drop got in the cabin.
Shoal draft, tabernacle mast, Johnson Sailmaster 9 HP, galvanized trailer, debth/knot meters, full cockpit cushions, two spinakers, blade jib, cocpit table, VHF, auto pilot, origional cooler, Porta-Potti, ground tackle, full cover, and many other options and upgrades. I am getting too old to dance around on such a lively boat.

These cracks are normal. Plastic coat is not flexible as much is carbon fiber under it, thus it cracks. A bigger problem with stepping masts is worn tabernacle. I am in the process of permanently fixing together top and botom parts on mine right now. Over the years it became loose and mast is noticeably banging sideways when I get hit by waves.
