Hello all, I have someone going up my mast tomorrow to replace my masthead light. What I’m wondering is, if it is a steaming light as the electrical panel switch says, an anchorlight or both? Are there 2 or 3 wires up there? I would like it to be all of the above but don’t know if that’s possible. I also wish I had bought one that was light sensative. Oh, well, I didn’t.“Life is a Reach, then you Jibe” SWARD

Unfortunately, the boats can be wired different depending on who did the original commissioning and owner’s requirements at that time . At the base of the mast there should be a junction box for disconnecting the wires so the mast can be pulled. At the box you should be able to tell what you have. A volt/ohm meter will help in figuring it all out.

You can have it any way you want depending
on what you replace it with. I believe even with 2 wires it is possible to have
both, they make some that by reversing polarity the switch is able to change
modes. At least I think I recall this.
