I figure there must be a calculation on how long, diameter etc a
mooring line should be? Does any one have it?

I you’re refering to the pennant, the Town of Oyster Bay here on LI
requires it to be 2 times the distance from the bow chock plus the
distance from the bow chock to the mooring cleat. If you mean the
length of the mushroom to the bouy it should be 2 1/2 times the
depth of water at the high tide as by the local charts.

This is a good way to determine the lengths.
