This does not involve Freedoms, but it does involve boats. My son
Alex Lorman is a finalist (for the second year straight) in the
Education, K-12 category of an international computer assisted
design competition sponsored by PTC. His design is an Open 60 class
trimaran. Although the five finalists were selected by design
professionals, the winner is selected by on-line voting. This
places a great premium on the entries of kids who go to large
schools. (Last year’s winner was Russian, and it seems the entire
country voted.) My son goes to a very small school, so I’m reaching
out to the sailing community to drum up some votes for him. The web
site for the competition is
http://www.ptc.com/appserver/mkt/ptcawards/vote/intl.jsp. Once
you’re there, scroll down to “Education, K-12.” If you like Alex’s
design (I know, its not a Freedom), we’d both be thankful for your
vote. (Especially me, since the prize will pay his first year’s
college tuition!)
Many thanks.

Many thanks to all of you who took time to look at the entries and
vote for my son in the PTC design competition. Alex was notified
yesterday that his entry was the winner in the K-12 category and
he’s been invited to a PTC conference in Orlando to accept. He’ll
be attending college in Annapolis next year and he’s already
planning to ask Bruce Farr, whose office uses PTC software, for a
job.
Again, many thanks.
