New Boat for us

Posted by Thomas Curran (kaikouravoyager@…>)

Hey group. Just bought hull #335 in Monmouth Beach NJ.
The wife and I grew up at the Jersey Shore, but Middlebury Vt became
home about 1985.
We are doing a winter rental in Manasquan NJ until May

We have owned too many boats in our 53 years on earth
J22, Lightning, Tartan 20, Pearson Commander, Voyager 26, still own a
15 foot John Dory powerboat.

We have done the ICW From VT to New Bern NC twice and actually lived
aboard the Tartan down there for 5 years.

NOW for the new boat…
Its missing the spinnaker and the staysail jib.
It came with a Johnson 6hp motor.
It needs a boat job.
I will probably do that bowsprit mod that I saw on this website.
The main is in good shape.

I will have many questions, Im sure.
To begin with, What was the freshwater plumbing arrangement
I have the galley sink but no , and the drain hose goes no where
except the bilge.

I will be keeping the boat in Monmouth Beach this winter, and part of
next summer.

Thanks. Ill post pics.
We still need to name the boat.

On my 21 the plumbing ran to a collapsible plastic jug of maybe two or three gallons thatt was just placed under the sink. Laissez les bons temps rouler

My F21 also had nothing but a drain below the sink, leading to a reinforced hose to the starboard fwd underseat compartment, where it was received by a 5 gallon collapsible jug (cheapo). I put that jug under the sink, as I place a very flexible “Sunshower” in its place… better flow, easier to handle full, etc.
Welcome aboard and good luck!

Tom,
welcome to our forum. My Freedom had 1 collapsable bag plumbed with fresh water and 1 for waste water from the sink. These bags can be purchased at any store that sells camping gear. Cabellas,Bass pro, even wal-mart.I use just regular flex hose to connect them and stainless hose clamps.GOOD LUCK

Tom,

On Blue Merle (#259) I installed a Forespar overboard (thru-hull) drain (with a proper valve) for the sink that exited on the side just above the waterline.

The Freedom 21 was designed to be simple to sail. Adding
through-hulls, electronics, mast lights, extra wiring, etc. just
complicates the boat. It is just fun to sail. Keep it simple.

Thanks
