Hi All,
I had posted a few weeks ago regarding sea trials and surveys on a
Hoyt Freedom 32 I was looking at in Holland, MI. Well, I am now the
owner!
This is my first boat and I am absolutely overwhelmed–it is a 20 year
dream materialized. Now, though, it is time for me to get to work
getting her into shape.
She needs very few actual repairs. And, fortunately, the marine survey
came back pretty clean. There was very little moisture found anywhere
and he said the little found was to be expected around hardware. He
also said that the boat was one of the best condition boats of this
age that he has seen. (I found this surveyor independently of the
broker, btw.)
I am going down tomorrow to field day the interior and exterior. I
have a few questions for the experienced F32 owners, if I may ask:
- What should I use to clean and project interior teak, esp the cabin sole?
- I intend to use the built-in shower but want to protect the teak in
the head. Any recommendations on treating this area’s woodwork?
- Is there a fitting on the boat to hook up a fresh water connection?
Or, do you just fill the water tank repeatedly when you are dockside?
- Anyone know where the “flux compass” is for the original
Autohelm–mine is badly out of whack?
- Our windows are very foggy and scratched. Is there a good way to
clean/polish them up?
Thanks for any help. I will post some pics soon in the files area.
Best,
–Kevin

Kevin-congratulations on the new Freedom. I think you will love it as much as all of us. I’d stick to general cleaning tomorrow and get advice from others here before you tackle refinishing floors. The windows need special care and DO NOT use regular cLeaners on them. There are a number of people with great experience and insights here to help you, although you may not get answers tonght.
Congrats again.

Use Liquid Gold, or lemon oil. They can be found in almost any grocery store, or home improvement store. I used both on my F32 and it always looked and smelled good. The lemon oil helps reduce mildew or mold that might form.
