new mainsail

Posted by lance_ryley (lance_ryley@…>)

It turns out that the laminate main on my F40 has… well…
delaminated. I was hoping to get one more season out of it, but the
poor condition has made its replacement a necessity.

After going back through this list, I’ve decided to let Haarstick’s
loft in RI build my new main using dacron. Jeff at that loft has
already been pretty decent about pricing and being very patient while
I’ve moaned and wailed - I’ll keep you posted as to its progress as
we get closer to Spring.

Lance:

I’m also anxiously awaiting delivery of a new suit of sails from Haarstick. But I think they build them in Rochester, NY.

By the way, a decent set of used F30 sails are still for sale.

Lance,

What kind of laminate is your current (soon to be: old) mainsail?
And how long has it lived? I understand that you now move back
to ‘ordinary’ Dacron because of the durability? Are there going to
be any design innovations in your new main that you want to let us
know of?

And: happy new year

Mike
