I have a 1982 Freedom 25, winged-mast. I’ve done numerous upgrades and refitting to the ole’ girl (fiberglass, electrical, windows, rigging, etc.) and club race out of Norfolk VA (Willoughby) and am a member of the BBSA. If anyone has any general questions let me know. I do race with the staysail and spinnaker (figuring out the rigging was a challenge!).
I have a 1982 F25, round mast. Have done some repairs, still need to do more. Windows were leaking, which I had to strip and re-caulk. Rotted out the bottom of the stows underneath. Toilet leaks. Have a new gasket but haven’t replaced it yet. Replaced the electric panel. Now has a cigarette lighter port, two USB charging ports, and a voltmeter.
Yes, rigging is a challenge, not only because it’s different from F25 to F25, but I think I have all of mine figured out. I have a scan of the manual which I turned into a Google Docs (linked from another page here). The scan is monochrome but the original colored the lines in the drawings to make them easier to trace.
Came with replacement instruments, Raymarine. Anemometer cable broke. Need to replace it and string it down the mast (advice accepted!). Other instruments work except that the %&%$&%^ zebra mussels fouled the speedometer sensor. Gonna epoxy two copper plates on either side of it.
If you want to come up to Watkins Glen and teach me how to race, that would be awesome! I have a staysail which I’ve rigged, and a spinnaker which I haven’t rigged yet, but I have all the parts. Nobody else has a similar boat, so I may be on my own.
