new stanchions and blocks

Posted by lance_ryley (lance_ryley@…>)

Bright Star’s stanchions suffered some abuse, some of it under
previous owners, and some of it by me. I’m thinking about replacing
them, and all of the cracked aluminum stanchion bases as well. I
contacted Mark Edwards to see about the original bases and tapered
stanchions. He said the aluminum blocks were replaced with stanchion
tubes mounted to stainless plate and that the tapered stanchions
were made by a CT company long out of business.

I’ve contacted Mark Garhauer about this, and he’s willing to make
the stanchion bases. He expects them to cost about $40 ea to make.
In addition, his tapered stainless 24" stanchions are $28 each, and
gate brace stanchions with an “h” shape are $55 each.

The stanchion bases will be manufactured to the spacing on the
Freedom 40 CK toe-rail mount bolts. I don’t know if the spacing is
the same on the F44 or other models, but the cost comes down with a
bulk order. If anyone else is interested in replacement stanchion
bases, please let me know - I expect to order 10 - 12 for myself,
probably in late October or early November. Mark said his turnaround
in October is probably 2 - 4 weeks right now.

Lance,

Way down on my to-do list is upgrade lifelines and stanchions on
Jade Moon, my F 45. My plan is to raise my lifelines, thus I would
want stanchions more than 24 inches, but that should be simple to
have them made longer.

What does the stanchion base on your 40 look like? I will try to
find a way to make a drawing of my bases, I know I can take a good
digital photo of them. Send me a direct e-mail
ray.wolf@… and I will send you my photos of the bases.
