Good Morning, Lola:We lived on our F30 for about a year…in weather from snowing cold to tropical hot…blessedly, most of the time without mosquitoes. Since 98% of the time we were achored out we didn’t feel the need for the security or privacy that you are seeking with your door project. But I can clearly imagine the convenience of a simple swing- out door in the companionway. The challenge of designing such a door is getting hung up (in my mine) on the conflicting problem of making both easy to remove and water tight----ie resistant to blowing rain…which when docked can come at you from any angle (at anchor, most of the driving rain blows in over the bow). So, here is a simplifying idea. If you fit your boat with a nice durable and attactive bimini cover that overlaps the top of the
aft end of your dodger, your new door would be shielded from most of the driving rain that would otherwise attack the door from every angle. This would greatly simplify the project.Second idea: Build slide in door jams that fit into the same slots used by the bin board. These could be held in place by overcenter clamps similar to those used on your companionway steps. You could hinge and latch the door to these slide in jams pieces and they would all be easily removeable.Looking forward to other ideas.FargoEx F30#12— On Wed, 7/9/08, Lola Jackson <lolaltd@…> wrote:From: Lola Jackson <lolaltd@…>Subject: [FreedomOwnersGroup] new wood door companionway F30To: “freedom group” <freedomownersgroup@yahoogroups.com>Date: Wednesday,
