Max,
I had a Wingmastted F25 for 2 years and have now had my 21 for about
3. Mostly lake sail here in New Mexico and around the Southwest.
Been racing with the Rio Grande Sailing Club and have had a number
of victories. As you can guess it is a little hard to keep a
consistent crew around here, this gives me “single handing” a big
advantage over my competitors. When they make a mistake I’m there to
take advantage of it.
The 21 is my fifth boat, as I’ve been lake sailing since I was 5
(46yrs now). I’m originally from Michigan.
My wife and I took the 21 out to Los Angles last year and
circumnavigated Catalina Island. We sailed about 120nmi and only
burned 1 gal of fuel. The little 21 sailed perfectly, we left our
friends in their Catalina25 in the dust. We had a great 10d trip and
got a lot of thumbs up from guys on 40+ footers. They loved this
little boat and all had to come over to check it out.
I’m currently looking to go bigger, a F28, F30 or maybe even a F32.
Just returned from crewing as first mate aboard a J/40 from San
Diego (stopped in Hilo) to Honolulu, and now have big boat fever.
This was my first real “open ocean” sailing, 18d of pure joy.
Transpac in 07??
The 21 is a great boat and very fast (full set of new Harrstack
sails). I’ve had it running 10knts in 30+ winds on several
occasions. Even the J/24 and Etchells guys won’t fly their
spinnakers in the winds I do with no problems.
The rig is hard to beat…I’m sold…
Thanks for the Welcome…enjoy reading the group’s discussions.
