Hi Everyone,

A number of people in the group have sold or bought Freedom 21s
recently. Two ex-Freedom 21 owners have phoned me to ask me to
remove their names from the Yahoo discussion group. I cannot remove
anyone from the group. This is something that you have to do through
Yahoo. Go to the help link and look for instructions there.

If you have sold your Freedom 21 and it is listed on the Freedom 21
Map http://www.freedom21.info/map.htm, let me know and I will remove
your listing.

If you have bought a Freedom 21, follow the instructions on the map
page and I will add your boat to the map.

I’m currently behind on adding new boats to the map. Be patient, I
will add your boat shortly.

Lastly, I need your advice. I’m considering creating something like
Wikipedia http://www.wikipedia.org for Freedo 21s. The topis might
be something like mast, hull, toilet, sails, fiberglass, keel,
blisters, winches, rudder, and so on. You would be encouraged to
share your knowledge by contributing to the wiki. Wilfred has
already begun the process by publishing articles on specific topics
to the Freedom 21 Web site
http://www.freedom21.info/modifications.htm. I will probably add
Wilfred’s articles to the wiki as starter content.

The reason that I am considering publishing a wiki is that this group
has been around long enough that some of the questions being asked
have been answered a couple of times in the past, but most people
using the group do not read back through the old discussions. This
is understanable. Searching through old discussions is time
consuming and often does not bear fruit. The discussion will remain
the same, but answers to questions would be published to the wiki in
an instructional format. The wiki, over time, would begin to read
like a very detailed instruction manual.

The wiki would enable you to publish content directly. Others will
be able to modify the content as they discover new details or find
errors that require corrections. Publishing is as simple as copying
and pasting.

If there were a wiki, would you contribute to it?

Sincerely,

Max

Hi Max,
A wiki is a great idea. Is it possible that you could “collect”
the most informative posts, past present and future, and include them? I know
I would be more inclined to answer questions when I have the knowledge if I
thought the info would persist in an easily searchable form.
Best,

Max,

Wiki might be a good added source but why reinvent the wheel?

Speaking as a new member I can say I have probably asked a question
that has been asked before. As I have become more familier with this
site, I have started using the search bar on this msg. board. Guess
what? It works! I had a question about a cap for my mast; I typed
Mast Cap; pressed Search and the search engine took me straight to
Sarah Smith’s question from back in April. It also showed Art
Quade’s solution for the problem.
