I was just about to type these up and send them to myself, but then I realized that perhaps someone else might benefit from them, so I’ll just post them here.
AwlCare is a polymer sealer designed for use on AwlGrip. I didn’t use it for quite a few years due to some negative comments that I had heard about it, but then I tried it and love it. This is the second year that I’ve used it. It’s a bit of a pain to put on, but with good surface prep you can make it look great. Here’s the steps that I follow:
- Wash the hull and use a chamois to dry
- Use a cleaner like Formula 409 to carefully clean each section that you’re working on. Be sure to remove any water stains as the AwlCare will emphasize them.
- Shake the product well
- Use a VERY clean cloth to apply, making multiple swirling passes over the area. I do 3’ wide sections. I use a separate cloth for the boot stripe area.
- Allow to haze over
- Use a very soft cloth, such as a diaper, to remove dried material.
- Use a second cloth to polish
- Repeat…repeat…repeat
- When complete, re-inspect hull repolishing areas that have swirls. Re-apply if polishing doesn’t remove swirl.
- Cheer and have a beer!
