oh no! the spin halyard!

I did it. I was reaving a new spinnaker halyard onto my Freedom 25. The way I
usually do this
is by taking the new halyard and sewing it end to end with the old one. Then I
pull the old
one through and it pulls the new one up the mast. But this time, the threads
came loose and
the old halyard ran up the mast, where it will stay until I pull the boat (and
the mast) in the
fall. Fortunately, I also have a staysail halyard which will have to answer for
a spin halyard
this summer. Oh, and if anyone’s thinking it, the mast is 1. unstayed. 2.
Carbon. 3. twenty-
some years old. I trust it as much as I trust most parts on that boat, which is
to say, not at all.
Meanwhile, I was curious; has anyone else used the third, external halyard for
their spin?

A friend shared his remedy for this. Says he whipped fishing hooks onto a line then ran it up tied to an adjacent halyard and snags the loose halyard and pulls it back down. Worth a shot!
