I recently purchased a 36 foot Freedom. I was wondering if anyone had
come up with a system to organize the port stern lazzerett. There
were all kinds or things placed in there and after the sail home,
nothing was where it was left. I have tried crates, that seemed to
work ok but I would like to somehow use the height also. If anyone
has any advice, I would like to hear it. Thanks

Small outboard motor for dink mounted on a bracket on lazarette
bulkhead; dock lines hung from hangers attached to the toe rail
bolts;dink oars in phenolic brackets up high near underside of toe
rail; Other gear stowed in various sized/colored Sunbrella bags as I
found the crates to be near impossible to pull out without climbing
down inside. The canvas bags have stout webbing loops sewn into the
top so crew can pull them out with a boat hook. Bags are loaded such
that anyone in the crew is strong enough to pull them out. Last, I
sewed a webbing net to keep gear forward of the steering gear with
snaphooks on the ends.
That much storage is great to have, but a challenge to use effectively.

Thanks Buzz, This all sonds great. Too much space is a challenge
indeed but I would rather this then no space.

Let me propose a less than popular solution. Keep in mind that I
cruise my 36. Here we go: CRUISE LIGHT. The port lazarrette is your
access to many mechanical systems ie: engine, steering, exhaust,
diesel fill, propane locker, cockpit drains to name a few. In
addition there are all your elec. connections from your pedestal
instruments and others. There is just too much going on in that
locker to risk damage from shifting stowage, not to mention
emergency access. Believe me, there is enough stowage on the 36,
that ,thoughtfully used ,can take care of your extended cruising
needs if you cull your gear. My rule (except for spare parts and
tools): If it hasn’t been used in a season, it’s off the boat.
Having said that, I do have a rack on the hull side with shelves,
which leaves plenty of room for access. The rack and shelves holds
my reefer compressor, microwave, lines, spare anchor and rode, brooms,
mops, radar reflector, flares, pails, and emergency tiller.
