Our old boats and their stories

Our older boats all have a life history. Previous owners will have immortalized their feats with flags of foreign travel , artistic repairs or preservation efforts, trophies or special dings and scratches and sometimes tales, photos, and videos. One of the things that this forum has allowed was learning about some of these yarns and the sailors.

PCOBHAN the first owner sailed the North Sea, the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and sold it here in Florida He left a race participant plaque (photo). He kindly posted a bit of her story here.
The first American owner’s yacht documentation revealed that he lived less than 15 miles from me … 44 years ago. But that is all I know of his years. I am sure others had graced the deck before my immediate predecessor bought it for a dollar after it lost a mast in a hurricane on the west coast of Florida . Numbknots posted about many of his heroics and restorative efforts here. His mast repair was a masterpiece.
My legacy to date pales.
Enjoy your cruise!

I sold my Freedom 40 CK to a man who I thought had more ambition than sense at the time. He had the boat shipped to Lake Lanier 9same place I bought my Elliott 770) in Georgia to learn how to sail it. It had to have been quite a sight, that big two masted blue sailboat on that lake.

It turns out he had ambition, drive, and skill and ended up moving the boat from Lake Lanier to the coast and sailing it to England. Every once in a while I’ll see her ghost by in someone’s instagram post
