Our Thanks

Our Thanks

To Max, John and Nick and F21 Group for their helpful comments on
our purchase of hull 307, Emmylou.

At least a dozen people have weighed in with their opinion that
360+NM on an untested F21 was stretching it, so a truck delivery has
been arranged for early April.

I’m sure I will have dozens of questions / ideas to share but my
priorities are shaping up like this:

  1. Mainsail - this rig seems to have the original sails. The
spinnaker is in fine shape, but the main is really beat. We would
like a new one. So far we have a couple of prices ranging from
$1,300. to $1,900. seems steep… Have requested a quote from
Thailand but not received it yet. My friend with a Freedom 40
Cat/Ketch says the Aisian sails are fine…

  2. Electronics: Does anyone know what the push/pull switch on the
outside of the sink cab. controls? Is there a wiring diagram
anywhere for this model? Anyone want to weigh in with input re: dual
batteries / voltage meters / lights / inverters / solar panels?

  3. Emmylou has “original” lifelines but I favor “full” lifelines
with a stern pulpit (4 legs?) so I can pad the lifelines and lean
against them when driving - what seems to work in your opinion?

  4. Finally (for now) - any experience with various bottom paints?
This one was supposedly painted in '05 with Petit Trindad. Any other
    recommendations?

In the swing of things, Sean / Vivian

Sean,

If I had experience sailing a Freedom 21 I would have volunteered to
sail your boat to you just for the adventure of the trip. I would
have probably taken a little longer than the nine days suggested, but
it would have been the kind of adventure that brought me to sailing in
the first place.

If someone else needs their boat transported by sailing a year from
now, let me know.

Max
